Meet your Photographer

Edinburgh-based Portrait Photographer

Hello! My name is Alysa and I’m a portrait photographer based in Edinburgh. I’m so excited that you’ve found this page and are considering portraits in some of Edinburgh’s most iconic spots. Whether you’re local to Edinburgh or are traveling in from around the world,  a portrait shoot is the perfect momento and something you really will treasure forever (as cheesy as it sounds!).

Edinburgh offers a wealth of beautiful locations, from the historic streets to the stunning views of Arthur’s Seat from Calton Hill. I take pride in working closely with my clients to choose the perfect setting and create images that tell the story of their travels. If you’re visiting the city, I can help you plan the perfect iconic locations. If you’re local and have endless photos in these spots from your own adventures, I can also suggest other scenic options that are sure to be a bit more under the radar.

I offer a range of packages to suit your needs and budget, and I’m always happy to work with you to create a custom package that perfectly fits your vision. So, if you’re looking for a portrait photographer in Edinburgh who can deliver exceptional service and breathtaking images, get in touch with me today!

Thank you for booking direct and supporting a local business.

Your Edinburgh Portrait Photoshoot Questions, Answered

Yes, portrait shoots only cover central Edinburgh. You can find out more about locations included here.

If you want to get outside of Edinburgh to locations like Glencoe, please book an Adventure Photoshoot here. If you have a specific location in mind for a portrait session, please get in touch for a quote.

Scotland is a cold and rainy country but it is stunning! The shoot will be the most fun if you embrace the wind and rain with full expectations of romantic windswept photos.

The weather can change instantly and weather radars are rarely right. If it’s the case that there is exceptionally bad weather I will offer to reschedule, however short of a full-on hurricane we will continue. Please note that I will judge the weather and make a call about an hour before the shoot because things can change quickly.

I don’t offer indoor shoots because these require prior approval from the venue. Venues often also charge a fee for commercial photography. When you pay a photographer this is commercial photography, regardless of how you plan on using the photos. If you have an indoor or private location you wish to shoot in, it is your responsibility to organise this and pay any necessary fees.

Photos are professionally edited and delivered in a private online gallery where you can download your favorite photos in high-resolution jpg format. I do my best to deliver everything as soon as possible without sacrificing quality. You can usually expect to see all your photographs within 4 weeks of the photoshoot day.  Upon delivery you are responsible for safekeeping all materials so I suggest you make a back up.

Posting my work online is an important part of developing my business and reaching potential clients. I might post a couple of photos on social media, as well as on the blog. If you are worried about your privacy or don’t wish to have your photos posted anywhere, please do communicate this with me beforehand during your shoot or before via email.

In addition to working as a vacation and portrait photographer, I do a lot of wedding photography and these usually take place on the weekends. If you can only do your Edinburgh photoshoot on a weekend, please get in touch using the form below and if I don’t have a wedding booked I will do my best to accommodate you.

Absolutely! Check out my About page here.

I don’t overedit the photos. Please use my portfolio and the work on this page as an example of what your photos may look like. I love to work with natural light and to create deep, rich edits that showcase the beauty of Scotland (and you!).

Worry not! I love traveling and am available anywhere you want me to come. Please get in touch for more details.

We’ll do our best to accommodate any last-minute bookings, but to ensure you get your preferred date, time, and photographer, we recommend booking at least 4 weeks in advance. Edinburgh is particularly busy during the summer, especially August, due to the Fringe, so it’s best to book as far in advance as possible. When you click on the “Check Availability” for the package you would like, you’ll be able to book up to 15 weeks in advance.

I love working with clients from all over the world regardless of where they find me. However, it can be disheartening when I do all of the work in arranging availability, creating timelines, providing recommendations for locations, traveling, shooting, editing, and requesting reviews only to receive about 50% of what you pay to a big corporation. By booking directly with me I can better assure you of quality and service – plus you’re supporting my small Edinburgh-based business – truly supporting the economy of the place you’re traveling to and what’s more local than that.

Absolutely! Proposals are one of my favorite things to photograph. I’m more than happy to hide and make it a surprise or plan it as part of the shoot. There is no minimum duration for booking a proposal shoot.

Absolutely! I offer different wedding packages that you can view here. The packages listed here are not suitable for ceremonies of any kind.

Why are weddings and elopements more expensive than portrait shoots?

Wedding and elopement packages are more expensive than portrait sessions due to the additional level of service required. For weddings and elopements, I don’t book any other shoots on the same day to ensure I can accommodate any potential delays. I also do quite a bit more planning ahead of time to ensure the day runs smoothly. I also bring extra equipment to prepare for various scenarios that could arise. Weddings and elopements require additional indemnity and liability insurance, which adds to the cost.

Moreover, the editing process is more involved for these events. For instance, I might remove distracting elements like fire exit signs from key images, a service that isn’t typically included in portrait sessions. Weddings and elopements also cover multiple parts of the day across different locations, whereas a portrait session is usually confined to a single event or spot. Lastly, I capture significantly more photos at weddings and elopements, which takes more time to sort, edit, and store. All of these factors contribute to the higher cost.
