THE GLEN HOUSE
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT a photoshoot at The Glen House, Scottish Borders
Situated near Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders, Glen House is a stunning Scots baronial estate with impressive architecture, manicured grounds, and sweeping moorland vistas. Perfect for intimate couple portraits, engagement shoots, proposals, and family photography sessions. Which is why I’ve put together everything you need to know about staying and having a portrait shoot at Glen House.
REASONS TO HAVE A Glen Estate Photoshoot

Lush Forest
Wander through Glen House’s enchanting woodland and parkland where towering trees create a natural canopy perfect for moody, romantic portraits. The dappled light filtering through the leaves adds an ethereal quality to every shot.

Castle-Vibes
With its distinctive Scots baronial architecture and stone details, Glen House delivers authentic Scottish castle grandeur without leaving the Borders. The historic character of the building provides a dramatic backdrop for timeless couple and family photos.

Library
Curl up in Glen House’s charming library for intimate indoor portraits that capture warmth and connection. The room’s classic elegance and cozy atmosphere make it ideal for candid moments and close-up couple shots. You’ll need to check with the owner ahead of time about coming into the main house (he’s super friendly and has lovely greyhounds!).
the perfect place to pop the question
Stay in The Glen’s gorgeous Larder Wing accommodation and wander the grounds at leisure. It’s the perfect place for an engagement shoot or to pop the question.

Where You’ll Stay
Stay in the beautifully converted Larder Wing, a historic two-bedroom retreat set near Glen House’s impressive entry. This charming stone building, originally a game larder and wine store (unfortunately wine is not included), seamlessly blends period details with modern comforts, featuring en-suite bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, sitting room, and direct access to the private gardens and surrounding moorland.
The Larder Wing offers the perfect base for your photography sessions, with all the conveniences you need: central heating, WiFi, a wood stove, and modern appliances. Whether you’re planning a week-long self-catered stay or a shorter visit, you’ll have rare access to Glen House’s tranquil grounds and the stunning Scottish Borders landscape beyond.

GETTING TO The Glen House
The Glen is about an hour outside of Edinburgh near Innerleithen. I highly recommend taking the route that goes via Peebles as the roads are wider and much easier to drive on (take it from someone who got a flat tire on the way down because of narrow roads and sharp road drops!).

WHY CHOOSE ME TO PHOTOGRAPH your time at the glen?
I’ve had the pleasure of working at Glen Estate multiple times, and I can honestly say it’s one of my favorite venues to photograph. Between the gorgeous cherry blossoms that bloom in spring, the cozy and characterful interiors with their historic details, and the absolutely breathtaking landscape views across the Scottish Borders, it’s the perfect spot for capturing authentic, beautiful moments. My familiarity with both the interiors and exteriors means you’ll get stunning, naturally composed shots that truly reflect the magic of this place.
