The Royal Mile

Writer’s Museum

Tucked off the Royal Mile, the Writer’s Museum is located in Lady Stair’s Close and is a must-have shot for any Edinburgh portrait shoot or elopement. It offers gorgeous views of traditional architecture and with a beautiful white dress or suit, you get a gorgeous shot!

Advocate’s CLose

Advocate’s Close is another little alley leading down towards Princes Street via the Devil’s Advocate pub. I love the views of the Walter Scott Monument in Princes Street Gardens.

Riddle’s Court

Riddle’s Court is a gorgeous colourful little close (alley) nestled off the Royal Mile. It’s such a unique and beautiful area and I love to see people’s reactions when we head in here for the first time!

New College

Edinburgh University’s New College building is straight out of Harry Potter. You’ll need to wait until they open the gates for students, but once they do you’ll be able to walk into a beautiful courtyard, complete with towers, archways, and beautiful staircases. New College is an activity university building and opening and closing times are dependent on the school year.

Edinburgh Castle

EDINBURGH CASTLE

IDEAL AT SUNRISE

Grassmarket

A bustling Edinburgh city street (Victoria Street) scene with people walking on wet cobblestones. Colorful buildings line the vibrant Victoria Street, adorned with hanging festive lights shaped like snowflakes. The atmosphere is lively and captivating, echoing the charm of Holyrood Park nearby.

Victoria Street

Edinburgh’s most colourful street is Victoria Street and leads from Grassmarket to the Royal Mile. This is one of Edinburgh’s busiest streets so it’s normally a quick stop for a photo on a way to more hidden and quiet locations.

The Vennel

One of Edinburgh’s most iconic photo spots has to be the Vennel. Located up the stairs just off Grassmarket, the Vennel has a stunning view of Edinburgh Castle is a perfect spot for fairytale castle photos!

The Crosswalk

One of my favourite shots in Edinburgh! If we’re walking between Victoria Street and the Vennel, we’ll likely pause to take a photo at this crosswalk with a view of Edinburgh Castle in the background.

Dean Village

Ever the hidden gem is Dean Village. This quiet little village has grown increasingly popular as an Edinburgh photo spot. Just a 10 minute walk from Princes Street, Dean Village has plentiful greens and several gorgeous locations along the Water of Leith.

New Town

Circus Lane

This residential street in Stockbridge has quickly become a prominent photo location with its cobblestones and church steeple in the background. Come in spring to see the full street in bloom!

Stockbridge

Stockbridge has plenty of nooks and crannies with gorgeous streets that are ideal for photos. It’s also a great spot to stop for coffee or pop into a pub for photos that are a little different and cozier.

Calton Hill

One photo simply does not do Calton Hill justice! It’s easy to spend hours here viewing the city and Arthur’s Seat from many different angles. Calton Hill offers 360 views that do not disappoint!

Prince’s Street Gardens

Nothing says “iconic Edinburgh photo spot” quite like the view of Edinburgh Castle and the Ross Fountain in West Princes Street Gardens. The gardens offer a great place for greenery if you want to stay close to the Royal Mile.

Holyrood Park

ST. Anthony’s CHapel Ruins

St. Anthony’s Chapel Ruins in Holyrood Park is easily one of my favourite Edinburgh photo spots. With the ancient crumbling chapel, views of Arthur’s Seat and the sprawling city-scape it really has it all.

ST. Margaret’s Loch

Also located in Holyrood Park is St. Margaret’s Loch. You can see St. Anthony’s Chapel on the hill above and you’ll often find swans in this loch. It’s a popular place to elope in Edinburgh and makes for a beautiful backdrop to your portraits.

Around the park

Besides the iconic sites like the ruins and the lochs, Holyrood Park is full of gorgeous spots. It’s a great place for photos that don’t feel like you’re in the city-center. Get photos with gorgeous skyline views or turn the other way for towering hills in the background.

Q&A

01/
How many people can we have in a single group?

I’d recommend having no more than 10 people for a portrait shoot. The more people you have, the fewer spots we’ll be able to visit.

02/
How do we book?

Enter your info into the form below to access pricing. On the page, you’ll find a form to request to book. Fill that in and I’ll get back to you within 48 hours.

03/
Are we limited to these locations?

Not at all. If you have a special spot in central Edinburgh that you’d like to photograph at we can absolutely try that.

04/
Can we change outfits?

Absolutely! You can bring as many outfit changes as you’d like. I recommend bringing outfits you can layer because there will not be anywhere to change (unless you want to head into a cafe or pub).

05/
What happens if it rains?

Go into your shoot with the mindset that it’s probably going to rain. I have backup indoor locations in mind that we may be able to shoot in depending on the time of day. If it looks like rain, I’ll bring clear umbrellas and we’ll make the most of it!

06/
Can you help me plan a proposal photoshoot?

Absolutely! We offer pre-session consultations to discuss your ideas, preferences, and any specific requirements to ensure we capture exactly what you envision
